It seems like Kosmos is taking a page from Eagle Games' playbook. This time, they've taken a German PC game and converted it to a boardgame. Anno 1503 is the latest from Siedler designer Klaus Teuber and showcases many of his strengths; in fact, you don't have to look too hard to see bits and pieces of both Settlers and Entdecker in this one.
Players work to settle and develop their colony as quickly as possible, hoping to be the first player to meet three of the possible five victory point conditions. Each turn, players are allowed to use and develop their resources, sell or buy goods and move their ship to (hopefully) discover new land. It offers a solid challenge and it plays well with two people.
One game board, 90 commodity cards, 4 home islands, 32 island tiles, 28 colonist tiles, 14 public building tiles, 16 coat of arms markers, 8 wooden ships, 1 die, English rules.
